This year when my hubs and I were trying to figure out where we wanted to go for the kid’s fall break we wanted to find a place our kids could have fun and wouldn’t break the bank. Now, I’m a Disney girl through and through but the prices for Disneyland keep going up.
Add in the cost of hotel, food, and travel to the always climbing ticket prices and it just wasn’t something we could do. We looked into Universal Studios because Mini has been dying to go to the Harry Potter area they have. Sadly that’s about all they have that our kids would enjoy. They’re 10 and 6 and all save one or two other rides are geared towards teens and adults.
That brought us to Legoland. We have family in the area so hotels were something we didn’t have to worry about, most of the rides are geared towards kids so we had lots of options, and we found a smokin’ deal on 3 day tickets from Costco. Decision made!
Due to scheduling and life hiccups our first day we kept it pretty low key and only visited Sea Life. (Legoland itself wasn’t open.) Sea Life is more than an aquarium. They do conservation work and really do a fantastic job teaching everyone who visits about how they can help clean up the oceans. It was my son’s favorite place on the whole trip.
Legoland itself turned out to be much more enjoyable than I thought. As I said before I’m a Disney fan, so I compare every park to Disneyland. I wasn’t expecting to be impressed but I totally was. You don’t have to love Legos to enjoy yourself.
One of the best things was Legoland had areas where kids could build while the adults waited in line! That was probably one of our favorite things. I mean waiting in line isn’t fun as an adult. Add kids who are tired and just want to ride the ride? Nightmare. This really cut down on the over all stress of waiting in line for everyone!
I think what really sold us was how much our son loved it. He’s our homebody who don’t like fast/scary/spinning rides. Legoland had SO many rides that were just for him and other little ones who are like him. Legoland puts kids first and I love that! Sure there were rides we could do as a family, but there were also some things that Hubs and I got to watch from the sidelines.
Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of rides for bigger folks but it was nice to not have to worry if my kids would be upset by a ride. We knew what we were getting into.
They also had something for my daughter as well! She was able to try her hand at block coding with a little robot. How cool, right? (The Boy was a little young for it so he and his dad were next door playing in the xbox lounge. He didn’t mind at all. lol) Mini and I were able to work together to test and try getting her bot to preform simple tasks. It was so much fun! She loved solving the problems.
I think the only thing she loved more than that was winning this huge Squirtle at a midway game. (The rest of us all failed.)
Overall I would totally recommend this place as a fan family destination. You can really make it fit your families needs without feeling like you’re breaking the bank.
