Today marks the official 50th anniversary of the Startship Enterprise setting sail into our homes. I’m kind a little emotional to tell you the truth. Star Trek has always been a part of my life. My first crush was Spock. (He had my heart when he swam with the whale. That’s all it took for 5 year old Mel.) I wept at the end of Wrath of Khan, Loved to hate Q and would fight to the death for a chance to condition Riker’s beard.

Star Trek taught me to hope for something better. It gave me a glimpse into what could be if we work together and embrace the differences that make us all awesome. It still makes me want to be better today. To stand up and fight for the things I believe in while at the same time remembering their is strength in kindness. I will be forever grateful to Gene Roddenberry for his creations as well as all those who’ve kept it alive. Thank you. Be sure to share you’re stories and here’s to 50 more year!
