What I’m Not Gonna Buy: Holiday Beauty

Hey friends! So I’m here to talk about the holiday beauty items I’m NOT going to buy this year. If you’re not familiar with the whole “anti-haul” concept check out this video by the lovely Kimberly Clark. Quick version is in the beauty world that’s constantly telling you to “buy! buy! buy!” this is the other side telling you it’s okay to save your pennies.

Disclaimer:  I’m talking about why I’M not buying these products, not passing judgment on others who bought them.  It’s not me hating brands. It also doesn’t mean some of these wouldn’t make great gifts. They totally would. It’s simply me saying “I don’t need it and I’m not gonna buy it for myself.” We good? Okay, let’s get started!

Natasha Denona Star Eyeshadow Palette: This sucker is $169. PASS. No really. I get that when you do the cost breakdown the shadows are much cheaper, that they’re full sized, and blah blah blah. No. I have all of these colors and would rather pay more per shadow but less overall to get the colors I really want.

Kat Von D Metal Matte Eyeshadow Palette: Now, it kind of pains me to put this on here because I love Kat Von D’s stuff. The thing is, I just can’t justify buying it. Especially when I can look and know the shades I wouldn’t use at all coupled with the shades I already own.

Urban Decay Naked Illuminated Trio: I’ve gotta be honest, I HATE baked products. I haven’t found one that wasn’t dry or sheer. This is no exception. The reviews I’ve watched mostly said the same thing. This trio is sheer while being a glitter bomb to the face. No thank you.

Too Faced Holiday Palettes: Pictured above is the Too Faced The Chocolate Shop but they also have the Grande Hotel Cafe. Pass on both. The colors are boring, and the quality is lacking. I swatched these in store and was unimpressed.

M.A.C Spellbinder Eyeshadow: These are $22 and feel like nothing more than a gimmick. They’re supposed to have a magnetic ion charge to make the shadows stick to your skin. They’re a fancy pigment. That’s it. Plus I don’t like any of the colors M.A.C. is offering.

Estee Edit Gritty & Glow Magnetic Eye and Face Palettes: Boring, overpriced and not that great. You could get the “Comfort Zone” palette from Wet N Wild for $5-ish at the drugstore and get almost the same colors. Others have done this for cheaper and with better quality. Not impressed. Pass.

Marc Jacobs Beauty About Last Night Style Eye Con No 20 Eyeshadow Palette: This thing is $99. For that price I expect a wider range in color and texture for shadows. This thing almost feels like a higher priced copy of the Naked 3 from Urban Decay. In fact you could get the Naked 3 and a single black shadow for cheaper. Not worth it, plus Marc Jacobs isn’t really a brand I’m okay supporting.

Alright, I think that’s good for now. What do you think? Is there anything you wouldn’t want to buy? Let us know in the comments below!
