So today is Star Wars day and we thought we could share some of our favorite Star Wars related memories. We hope that you’ll share some of yours too!
I too have a meeting-Mark-Hamill story, but I think my favorite Star Wars memory is more recent. We did a Star Wars rewatch with The Collective a while ago, and I watched all the movies at my sister’s house. I was excited to expose my nephew, who wasn’t yet two years old, to one of my favorite movie franchises. He fell in love with R2-D2 (he still perks up when he hears droid noises) and all the music. When the opening credits started rolling he would sway in place and zone out staring at the television screen. It was adorable. But the best part was during one of the prequels, during a scene where Padme was in trouble. He was so distressed he started saying “uh oh uh oh” and it was so adorable I took a video. Seeing him that engaged with something that means so much to me was really incredible.
I think one of my best Star Wars Memories would have to be the time my Mom tried to get me to flirt with Mark Hamill on her behalf. Seriously. I grew up with Star Wars bc it’s something my Mom passed on to us. She would tells us all about how she had Mark Hamill in her locker at school and how much she loved him.
Fast forward to me at my very first SDCC. I noticed that he was there to sign things and it cost around $50 or so. I wanted to get that for my mom but it was a lot for me to send at once on a gift(Or at all really). I decided to call her and see if it was something she’d like and if so if she’d be ok with that being her birthday/xmas gift for that year. She was totally down and then things got weird.
First she wanted me to tell Mark all about her school lock growing up. Not weird really but then she wanted me to tell him that he was still hot. Awkward. I told her maybe. Then she suggested that I tell him that she she still was hot and totally a sexy grandma. She wanted to send me a picture to show him to which I replied: “MOM I WILL NOT FLIRT WITH MARK HAMILL FOR YOU!”
By then my friend who was with me and the lady next to us who’d both overheard the entire conversation proceeded to laugh until the cried. My mom was slightly offended I wouldn’t carry out her wishes and told me to forget about it. Which I did. LOL We still tease her about this.
